Diana Curtaz, Head of Implementation Services at Wayfinder, is at the core of this mission through the integration of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in the classroom, equipping students with the essential skills they require to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the future.

SEL is an educational model that focuses on developing five core competencies, as outlined by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL): self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Wayfinder builds on this foundation by introducing a sixth competency—purpose—which helps students explore their values, principles, and goals, bringing meaningful direction to their actions.

"In order for kids to learn, they also need these things, and so what we’re seeing nationally is we know there’s a need... a strong need that students walk away not only with those technical skills but those durable, future-ready skills,” claims Curtaz.

By incorporating SEL in their classrooms, educators ensure students are not only prepared for the future academically, but are also equipped to adapt, connect, and thrive in an increasingly complex environment.
