Interactive: Do you have a designer's eye? OR Can you tell which item costs a $1,000 more?
Ok, I have never been accused of having a designer's eye and answering the five questions in this Marketplace quiz provided further proof of that. I thought this short interactive might lead to interesting conversations about why we buy the things we do and all the psychological factors that play into purchasing decisions (e.g., status vs. function)
From Marketplace:
Questions:
- Did you do better or worse than you expected picking out the higher-end furniture?
- What surprised you as you answered the quiz questions?
- Knowing the prices of the various furniture items now, would you choose any of the higher-priced ones? Why?
- Describe the criteria you would use to purchase furniture. How do you think this might change in ten years?

About the Author
Tim Ranzetta
Tim's saving habits started at seven when a neighbor with a broken hip gave him a dog walking job. Her recovery, which took almost a year, resulted in Tim getting to know the bank tellers quite well (and accumulating a savings account balance of over $300!). His recent entrepreneurial adventures have included driving a shredding truck, analyzing executive compensation packages for Fortune 500 companies and helping families make better college financing decisions. After volunteering in 2010 to create and teach a personal finance program at Eastside College Prep in East Palo Alto, Tim saw firsthand the impact of an engaging and activity-based curriculum, which inspired him to start a new non-profit, Next Gen Personal Finance.
